New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox has been placed on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Fox is anticipated to be out of action for a period but is expected to return before the conclusion of the regular season. The individual, who shared this information under the condition of anonymity, stated that the team has not yet made an official announcement about the move.
The injury occurred during the third period of the Rangers’ recent 5-1 victory over the Islanders.
Currently, the Rangers are just two points shy of securing the second and final wild-card playoff position in the Eastern Conference with 24 games remaining.
Fox, aged 27, was the recipient of the 2021 Norris Trophy and has been a standout figure on the U.S. blue line at the Four Nations Face-Off. He has accumulated 48 points throughout 58 games this season with New York.
The status of defenseman K’Andre Miller remains uncertain following an injury he also sustained during the game against the Islanders.
Furthermore, it is unclear how Fox’s condition will influence the decisions of general manager Chris Drury, particularly in regard to pending unrestricted free agent defenseman Ryan Lindgren as the NHL trade deadline approaches on March 7.
