LONDON — Apple is in the process of rectifying a glitch in the dictation feature of certain iPhones that intermittently suggests the term “Trump” when users pronounce words that start with the consonant ‘R’, such as “racist”.

This move from Apple comes in response to a wave of videos shared by iPhone users on social media earlier this week, highlighting how the error occurs.
When users engaged the dictation feature and uttered the word “racist”, the text “Trump” briefly displayed in the text box before swiftly being replaced with the desired word, as demonstrated in several online videos.
“We have identified an issue within the speech recognition model that drives the Dictation function, and a solution is being implemented today,” Apple stated in a communication.

The company explained that the voice-to-text feature’s speech recognition models might present words that share some phonetic similarities.

They also noted that this bug was accidentally triggered by other words incorporating the “r” consonant. Attempts by external sources to replicate the issue on Wednesday, the day after it surfaced, were unsuccessful.
In other news this week, Apple revealed plans to invest over $500 billion and employ 20,000 individuals within the United States over the forthcoming four years, including the construction of a new facility in Texas. These developments arise amidst potential threats from Trump to impose tariffs on imported goods. Additionally, Apple shareholders have resisted a push to compel the company towards Trump’s initiative to eradicate corporate programs aimed at diversifying its workforce.
