GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida’s basketball team is set to gain a significant player back on the court as forward Alex Condon anticipates a return against Georgia this Tuesday. Condon, who had been sidelined due to a sprained right ankle, sustained his injury in the first half-minute during the Gators’ triumph over Mississippi State on February 11. Since his absence, his team has continued to perform, but his presence will undoubtedly be a boost, as he’s a key player leading the Gators with an average of 7.8 rebounds per game and contributing 10.6 points, making him fourth in scoring for the team.
Condon is among a group of four Florida players who have faced injuries recently, including forward Sam Alexis and guards Walter Clayton Jr. and Alijah Martin, all of whom have missed games during the team’s impressive six-game winning streak. Head coach Todd Golden expressed the importance of having the team fit and ready for the critical phase of the season, noting the competitive nature of playing in the SEC.
“Every game for us in the SEC feels like the Super Bowl,” Golden explained on Monday. “However, our primary goal is ensuring our team is at full strength for March. We’re being cautious not to rush anyone back prematurely, which could potentially hinder our progress in the NCAA Tournament. Bringing someone back too soon isn’t advantageous for our goals.”
Golden remained optimistic about Condon’s return to action, expressing confidence in his player’s condition. “I think he’s ready to go, and as things stand, I’m feeling confident that he’ll play Tuesday night,” he added. Florida fans will watch closely as the Gators aim to continue their momentum against Georgia, hoping to have Condon as a pivotal part of their strategy moving forward.
