LEICESTER, England — On Monday, Leicester City announced a shake-up in its coaching team following a series of disappointing results in the Premier League. While the manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, retains his position, two of his assistants, Ben Dawson and Danny Alcock, are departing from the club.
The decision to part ways with Dawson and Alcock comes after a particularly tough match where Leicester suffered a 4-0 defeat at home to Brentford. This loss has left the team sitting second-to-last in the league, now five points adrift from safety.
The club is experiencing an unfortunate streak, having lost six consecutive home games without managing to score, a record that marks the worst performance in Premier League history. Since Van Nistelrooy took the reins in November, he has overseen 13 matches in the league, achieving only two wins against ten losses. This alarming form has placed considerable pressure on his tenure as manager.
Van Nistelrooy’s coaching experience has been limited; this is his second role in senior management after previously overseeing PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands and a short interim position at Manchester United, where he enjoyed a successful playing career lasting five years.
Dawson and Alcock, who were first-team coaches, joined Leicester at the start of the current season, initially working under Steve Cooper, who was dismissed in November prior to Van Nistelrooy’s arrival.
In a statement, Leicester City expressed their gratitude towards Ben and Danny for their contributions, wishing them the best for their future endeavors in the sport.
