SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Search efforts are currently underway for a missing U.S. tourist who got lost while exploring the dense jungles of El Yunque, located in the eastern part of the U.S. territory.
Authorities reported that 64-year-old Abdur Rahman was hiking with a group when he became detached from them on Sunday. As the situation developed, search crews resumed their efforts on Monday to find the Wisconsin resident.
El Yunque is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and is recognized as the only tropical rain forest managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Tourists flock to this popular destination to enjoy its rich biodiversity and scenic trails.
It’s noteworthy that this isn’t the first incident of its kind; last year, another U.S. tourist lost his life after falling off a cliff following a departure from the marked hiking path.
Authorities are urging hikers to remain vigilant and stay within designated areas to ensure their safety while enjoying the beauty of El Yunque. The ongoing search for Rahman highlights the importance of preparedness and caution while venturing into such wilderness regions.
