NEW HAVEN, Conn. — In an exciting matchup on Friday night, Yale claimed victory over Cornell with a score of 92-88, thanks to an impressive performance from Nick Townsend, who netted 24 points.
Townsend contributed significantly to the game, rounding out his stats with 11 rebounds and five assists, leading the Bulldogs to an overall record of 17-6 and a remarkable 10-0 in the Ivy League. In addition to Townsend’s contributions, Casey Simmons was a standout player, scoring 21 points on an efficient shooting night, hitting 8 out of 12 from the field, including 3 for 4 from beyond the arc, along with making 2 of 3 free throws and grabbing eight rebounds. Bez Mbeng also played a key role, scoring 14 points on 4 of 11 shooting, with two of his attempts coming from three-point territory and succeeded in 4 out of 6 free throws. The victory extended Yale’s winning streak to an impressive 11 games.
On the side of Cornell, who now hold a record of 13-10 with a 5-5 standing in the Ivy League, the standout was AK Okereke, who had a phenomenal night with 30 points and seven assists. Jake Fiegen also had a strong game, finishing with 23 points along with two steals, while Nazir Williams added to the offensive effort with 19 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
Both teams are set for action again on Saturday, with Yale preparing to take on Columbia at home, while Cornell travels to face Brown on the road.
