Carter showcased an impressive performance, scoring 24 of his career-high 29 points in the second half for LSU (13-12, 2-10 Southeastern Conference). The Sooners (16-9, 3-9) had taken a 79-74 lead with just 35 seconds left in the game thanks to two free throws from Jalon Moore. However, Carter was fouled while sinking a 3-pointer, converting the free throw that brought the Tigers within one point.
In the final moments, Carter capitalized on a steal by Curtis Givens III, completing a three-point play with only eight seconds remaining to give LSU an 81-79 lead. Following this, Jeremiah Fears from Oklahoma missed a close-range shot, and Vyctorius Miller sealed the win for the Tigers by hitting 1 of 2 free throws in the dying seconds.
Carter’s shooting accuracy was noteworthy, with 10 successful attempts out of 17 from the field, including 5 of 10 from beyond the arc, along with a perfect four free throws. Daimion Collins also made significant contributions with a career-high of 22 points before eventually fouling out. Dji Bailey provided additional support with 13 points and five rebounds.
Oklahoma’s leading scorer, Fears, managed to put up 15 points after a challenging sequence of five consecutive games against ranked opponents. Moore contributed 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Duke Miles added 12 points. Both Moore and Miles were flawless at the foul line, each going 8 for 8, contributing to Oklahoma’s 26 successful free throws out of 32 attempts for the game.
The Sooners initially had a strong grip on the game, leading 44-31 early in the second half, but LSU responded with a remarkable streak, making 10 consecutive shots, capped off by Carter’s three-pointer that gave the Tigers a 62-59 edge with seven minutes left in the game.
