BOLOGNA, Italy — In an unfortunate twist of fate, Cristiano Biraghi’s debut for Torino became a night to forget as he scored an own goal in the dying moments of the match, handing Bologna a thrilling 3-2 victory in their Serie A clash on Friday.
Just as the final whistle approached, Biraghi’s retreating clearance inadvertently struck him and rolled past Torino’s goalkeeper, marking an agonizing start for the player, who recently joined the team from Fiorentina.
This match also ended Torino’s unbeaten run of eight games, which included six draws and one win following a difficult period late in the previous year.
The exciting encounter at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara featured several noteworthy moments, including a brace by Bologna’s Dan Ndoye.
Torino initially took control when Eljif Elmas, on loan from Leipzig, channeled his ingenuity to score in the 65th minute, expertly maneuvering through a defender and lofting the ball over the goalkeeper to secure a 2-1 lead.
However, just five minutes later, Ndoye capitalized on a penalty situation to even the score.
This victory propelled Bologna up to seventh place in the standings, while Torino remained in 11th.
