MIAMI – In an impressive display, Taelon Peter contributed significantly to Liberty’s 82-59 win over Florida International on Saturday evening, scoring 21 points from the bench.

Peter showcased his shooting prowess, going 8 for 12 from the field, including 4 for 7 from beyond the arc for the Flames, who now hold a record of 16-4 and 4-3 in Conference USA. Kaden Metheny aided the team’s effort with 13 points, shooting 4 of 9 overall, while Colin Porter added 12 points, making 5 of 8 from the floor and 2 out of 4 from 3-point territory.

On the other side, Jayden Brewer led the Panthers with 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Additionally, Dashon Gittens made a noticeable impact on defense with five steals to go along with his 12 points. Jonathan Aybar also contributed with 11 points and eight rebounds for Florida International, which now sits at 7-13 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

Peter’s standout performance included 18 points in the first half alone, propelling Liberty to a solid 43-27 lead at halftime. The Flames extended their advantage in the second half, finishing the game with a 7-point edge over Florida International, and Porter led his team in scoring for the second half with 10 points.

Both teams are set to return to action on Thursday, with Liberty traveling to face Kennesaw State and Florida International heading out on the road to take on Jacksonville State.
