The Washington Nationals have secured a two-year contract with left-handed pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara, valued at $3.5 million, as confirmed on Friday.
Under this agreement, Ogasawara will earn a salary of $1.5 million for the current season and an additional $2 million in 2026.
The talented 27-year-old was offered to Major League Baseball clubs by the Chunichi Dragons of the Central League on December 10. He had until Friday to finalize a contract. As part of their agreement with the Dragons, the Nationals will be paying a $700,000 release fee for Ogasawara’s services.
In the previous season, Ogasawara logged 24 games, finishing with a record of 5-11 and an impressive 3.12 ERA over 144 and one-third innings pitched. During that time, he achieved 82 strikeouts while issuing 22 walks.
Overall, throughout his career with the Chunichi Dragons, Ogasawara has a record of 54 wins against 72 losses, boasting a 3.67 ERA across 190 games in both the major and minor leagues.
To make room for Ogasawara on the roster, fellow left-handed pitcher Joe La Sorsa has been designated for assignment.
