Soprano Lise Davidsen has announced that she is expecting twins, leading her to cancel all scheduled performances from mid-March through the end of the year.
“I’m thrilled about their arrival and can’t wait to embrace my new life with them,” Davidsen expressed in a statement released on Friday. She went on to express gratitude towards the opera houses where she was set to perform, as well as her fellow colleagues, thanking them for their understanding and support during this special time in her life.
The Norwegian opera singer, who will celebrate her 38th birthday on February 8, is currently performing in Vienna in Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos,” a role she will continue until January 31. Davidsen has a couple of recitals lined up for early February in San Francisco on the 4th and in Los Angeles on the 11th, followed by a role in Beethoven’s “Fidelio” at the prestigious Metropolitan Opera in New York scheduled for March 4-15.
However, she will not be able to perform roles such as Sieglinde in Wagner’s “Die Walküre” at London’s Royal Opera from May 1-17, as well as appearances at the Vienna State Opera on June 2 and June 22. Other cancellations include performances of Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” in Vienna from June 9-17, a concert event in Barcelona, Spain on July 2, and a concert performance of Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland set for July 24.
Despite these cancellations, Davidsen is still scheduled to feature in a new production of Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” at the Met, which is set to debut on March 9, 2026.
