The Billie Jean King Cup Finals will be relocating from Spain to China for the upcoming three years, as confirmed by organizers on Thursday.
Shenzhen is set to be the host city for the women’s international team tournament from 2025 to 2027.
The last two editions of the finals took place in Seville in 2023, where Canada emerged victorious, and in Malaga in 2024, where Italy claimed the title.
While specific dates for the finals have not yet been released, the decision to move the event has been made with strong endorsement from the organizers.
They highlighted that China provides an “excellent setting” for the tournament, citing its “state-of-the-art facilities, burgeoning tennis culture, and increasing interest in women’s sports.”
It’s worth noting that in 2021, the WTA Finals relocated from Shenzhen to Guadalajara, Mexico, primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic and issues regarding the safety of Peng Shuai, a retired Grand Slam doubles champion who spoke out against a former Chinese government official.
