A tragic incident occurred in southern Poland, where a coal miner lost their life following a fire at the Knurow-Szczyglowice colliery. Authorities from the hospital confirmed the miner’s death on Thursday, highlighting the serious nature of the event.

On Wednesday, a total of 16 miners were injured due to a methane explosion that took place approximately 850 meters (about 2,800 feet) underground. Among the injured, nine miners sustained severe burns and were promptly admitted to a specialized unit at a hospital located in Siemianowice Slaskie. Five additional miners were transported to different hospitals for treatment.

Wojciech Smetek, a representative from the Siemianowice Slaskie hospital, reported that one of the miners succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the fire as they work to uncover its cause. Fires and lethal explosions related to methane have been known to occur in Poland’s coal mines from time to time.
