EVANSTON, Ill. — In a thrilling encounter on Wednesday night, Ty Berry shined for Northwestern, hitting seven shots from beyond the arc to total 23 points, while teammate Brooks Barnhizer contributed 21 points, leading the team to a 79-70 victory against Indiana.
The Wildcats staged a decisive moment in the contest with a 21-4 run, paving the way for a comfortable 70-56 lead with only 3:12 remaining in the game. Jalen Leach played a pivotal role during this stretch, sinking three of the five 3-pointers for Northwestern.
Despite a strong response from the Hoosiers, where Luke Goode and Mackenzie Mgbako each nailed consecutive 3-pointers to narrow the gap to 72-68, Indiana was unable to close in on the Wildcats.
With this victory, Northwestern improved their record to 12-7 overall and 3-5 in Big Ten play, marking the fifth consecutive win against Indiana—a feat it hasn’t achieved since a five-game winning streak from 1913 to 1915.
Berry’s shooting prowess was evident as he completed 8 of 13 from the floor and collected seven rebounds. Barnhizer also made a significant contribution, shooting 8 of 14 while also recording eight rebounds and six assists. Additionally, Nick Martinelli contributed 18 points, and Leach wrapped up his night with 15 points and seven assists, capitalizing on 17 turnovers committed by Indiana to score a total of 21 points.
For Indiana, Mgbako led the scoring with 20 points on an 8-of-14 shooting night, while Oumar Ballo added 15 points, and Goode chipped in with 14. Notably, Mgbako’s early 3-pointer in the second half gave Indiana its largest lead of the game, a seven-point advantage at 36-29.
As the teams prepare for their next challenges, Indiana will host Maryland, while Northwestern is set to face No. 17 Illinois, with both games scheduled for Sunday.
