ATLANTA — The No. 17 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets secured an impressive 89-65 win against Clemson on Sunday, thanks in large part to Tonie Morgan’s outstanding performance, which resulted in her first triple-double of the season. The junior player recorded 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 14 assists, contributing significantly to her team’s end of a three-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Clemson faced their fourth consecutive defeat, dropping their record to 10-9 overall and 3-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Georgia Tech improved to 16-3 and 4-3 in the conference.
Kara Dunn led Georgia Tech’s scoring effort with an impressive 20 points, hitting 7 of 11 shots and effectively contributing from the free-throw line by making 5 of 6 attempts, including a successful 3-pointer. Kayla Blackshear provided additional firepower with 19 points, while Tianna Thompson and Rusne Augustinaite contributed with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Chazadi Wright also made her mark by adding 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds to support the Yellow Jackets’ dominant performance.
For Clemson, Loyal McQueen was the standout performer, notching 18 points and distributing six assists. Mia Moore contributed with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Anye Poole made a solid impact off the bench, scoring 11 points on a perfect shooting night of 5-for-5.
The Yellow Jackets asserted their dominance right from the start, aided by Blackshear’s perfect shooting night that contributed eight of the team’s 27-13 lead after the first quarter. Dunn also played a pivotal role by adding seven points, helping to expand Georgia Tech’s lead to 46-26 by halftime.
In the third quarter, Clemson worked to close the gap as McQueen scored eight points, helping the Tigers outscore Georgia Tech by five in that period. They matched their first-half total, bringing the score to 67-52 going into the final quarter. However, Thompson quickly scored in a 6-0 run, allowing the Yellow Jackets to re-establish control and comfortably secure the victory as they cruised to the finish line.
Georgia Tech displayed an impressive shooting performance, finishing the game with a 59% shooting rate from the field and successfully converting 50% of their attempts from three-point range. In contrast, Clemson managed to shoot 45% overall and made 4 of 14 shots from beyond the arc.
