Honolulu played host to a competitive college basketball matchup on Saturday night, featuring Hawaii against Cal State Bakersfield, with Hawaii coming out on top with a score of 81-70.
Tanner Christensen was a standout player for the Rainbow Warriors, achieving 17 points along with nine rebounds to aid in the team’s success. Gytis Nemeiksa also made significant contributions, matching Christensen’s point total by scoring 17 points, shooting 6 for 9 overall, and demonstrating efficiency at the charity stripe by hitting 3 of 4 free throws. Meanwhile, Kody Williams added to the team’s success with a solid performance, scoring 16 points with a shooting percentage of 50% from the field (5 for 10). He was also productive from beyond the arc, hitting 3 of 7 shots from three-point range, while making 3 out of 4 foul shots.
On the other side of the court, the Roadrunners had Jemel Jones leading their scoring efforts. Jones wrapped up the night with an impressive 29 points, as well as pulling down nine rebounds and making three steals. Corey Stephenson chipped in significantly as well, contributing 18 points and securing three steals. CJ Hardy rounded out their scoring with nine points and two steals to aid his team’s efforts, although it wasn’t enough to clinch the victory as they fell short against Hawaii.
This matchup showcased not only individual talent but also highlights the competitive spirit of college basketball as both teams fought hard until the end. Hawaii improved its record to 12 wins and 6 losses while maintaining a 4-3 standing in the Big West Conference, whereas Cal State Bakersfield recorded a 9-10 overall record and 3-4 within the league.
