COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Zhuric Phelps contributed 13 points and his teammate Wade Taylor IV added 12 as the eleventh-ranked Texas A&M secured a 68-57 victory against LSU on Saturday evening.
After missing three games due to an undisclosed injury, Taylor’s return provided a boost for the Aggies (14-4, 3-2 in the Southeastern Conference). Cam Carter was the standout performer for LSU (13-6, 1-4), scoring 16 points in the match.
The game shifted in favor of Texas A&M early in the second half when they trailed 43-42. The Aggies ignited a significant 10-0 offensive stretch, marking their resurgence in the contest. Solomon Washington capped off the run with a well-placed 3-pointer from the right corner, propelling Texas A&M to a 52-43 advantage with just over eight minutes left on the clock.
The Tigers were coming into this matchup following a hard-fought 78-74 win against Arkansas on Tuesday, having struggled in their preceding three SEC contests. However, LSU found themselves back in the loss column, a setback attributed not to effort but rather to persistent lapses in attention to detail. The team recorded a discouraging total of 18 turnovers, marking their fifth consecutive game with double-digit misplays this season.
On the other hand, the Aggies were looking to bounce back after recent defeats, including a loss to No. 4 Alabama at home and a tough matchup against No. 8 Kentucky while on the road.
A key aspect of the game was the Aggies’ ability to capitalize on LSU’s mistakes, as they dominated points off turnovers with a decisive 19-4 advantage, showcasing their opportunistic style of play.
Looking ahead, Texas A&M will face off against No. 21 Mississippi on Wednesday night, while LSU is set to visit No. 4 Alabama the following Saturday.
