Simmons tallies 20 points in Gardner-Webb’s 97-68 victory over South Carolina Upstate

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Gardner-Webb triumphed over South Carolina Upstate with a decisive score of 97-68 on Saturday evening, led by Darryl Simmons II, who contributed 20 points to his team’s success.

Simmons displayed a strong performance, hitting 7 of his 14 shots, including 6 out of 10 from the three-point range. Teammate Pharell Boyogueno added 18 points, shooting 6 for 12 overall and impressively nailing 5 of 9 attempts from beyond the arc. He also secured 10 rebounds during the game. Anthony Selden further bolstered the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ offense, finishing with 18 points on a shooting line of 6 for 8 (including a perfect 3 for 3 from deep) and adding eight assists, although he struggled with free throws, converting just 3 of 11 attempts.

For South Carolina Upstate, Breylin Garcia was the top scorer with 12 points, while Nic Book contributed significantly with nine points and eight rebounds. Andrew McConnell also pitched in with nine points for the Spartans. South Carolina Upstate currently holds a record of 5-15 and is 1-4 within their conference.

Looking ahead, both squads are set to compete again on Wednesday. Gardner-Webb will be hosting UNC Asheville, while South Carolina Upstate will take on High Point at home.
