Stillwater, Oklahoma – Oklahoma State secured an 83-73 victory over Colorado on Saturday, marking a significant win for the team. Bryce Thompson and Marchelus Avery both contributed 15 points, while Abou Ousmane added another 14 to help the Cowboys improve their record to 10-7 overall and 2-4 in Big 12 play. This win ended Oklahoma State’s two-game losing streak and provided a much-needed boost for the squad.
In addition to the standout performances from Thompson and Avery, reserve player Patrick Suemnick scored 10 points. On the opposing side, the Buffaloes, now 9-8 and still searching for their first Big 12 win with a record of 0-6, saw Bangot Dak lead their efforts with 15 points. Both Sebastian Rancik and Julian Hammond III contributed as well, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Colorado faced its sixth consecutive loss.
The Cowboys took control of the game when Avery hit a crucial 3-pointer with 10:55 remaining in the first half, breaking an early tie at 14. From that moment forward, Oklahoma State held the lead. Even though Andrej Jakimovski’s 3-pointer cut the Buffaloes’ deficit to 24-21 with 8:16 left in the half, Oklahoma State responded effectively by outscoring Colorado 19-12 for the remainder of the half, leading 43-33 at the break. The Buffaloes made attempts to close the gap in the second half, coming within five points at 43-38 and four points at 45-41, but were unable to pull ahead.
A key moment came when Khalil Brantley sunk a jump shot, followed by Avery making two free throws, and Brantley adding a layup, resulting in a 6-0 run that increased Oklahoma State’s lead to 64-50 with just under ten minutes left. The last time Colorado managed to close the gap to within ten points was when Dak hit a jump shot with 30 seconds remaining, making the score 82-73.
