MADRID — During a recent La Liga match against Getafe, Barcelona’s left back Alejandro Balde reported being subjected to racist taunts from fans. In a post-match interview with Movistar, Balde expressed his dismay, stating, “I received racist insults, something that shouldn’t happen, and I think I should say it here.”
Balde, who is Black, revealed that he heard these offensive comments during the first half of the match, which ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw. Following the incidents, he took the initiative to bring the matter to the attention of the referee.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in the second division, Elche’s Bambo Diaby also endured racist slurs during his team’s 1-1 draw against Sporting Gijon.
Racial abuse in football has become a concerning issue in Spain, with numerous incidents involving players over the past few years. Notably, Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior has been a frequent victim of such discriminatory behavior.
