CHICAGO — Brandon Miller, the Charlotte Hornets guard and the team’s second-highest scorer, is set to be out for an unspecified period due to a torn ligament in his right wrist.

Miller, who was selected as the second overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, missed the Hornets’ recent 125-123 win over the Chicago Bulls on Friday night. Initially, the team labeled his condition as a “wrist sprain,” but it was later revealed that he has sustained a ligament tear.

Following his injury during a game against Utah on Wednesday, Miller underwent an MRI that confirmed the torn ligament. The Hornets have indicated that they will offer further updates regarding his condition as they become available.

“It’s a bittersweet moment; you’re excited about the win but disappointed for Brandon’s injury,” commented Hornets coach Charles Lee. “We’ll keep assessing his situation and conduct thorough testing as needed. Our focus now is to unite and support him throughout his rehabilitation process.”

The 22-year-old Miller, who played one season at the University of Alabama before entering the professional league, has been averaging 21 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists across 34.2 minutes per game in the current season over the course of 27 games. Last season, he earned recognition as a finalist for the Rookie of the Year award, finishing in third place.

Teammate LaMelo Ball shared his thoughts on the setback, saying, “This is definitely a blow to the team. I went through something similar during my first or second year. Having the entire squad around him should provide some comfort. I can relate to what he’s experiencing; just being there with teammates is crucial, even in tough times.”
