CHICAGO — The Charlotte Hornets have announced that guard Brandon Miller, who ranks as the team’s second-highest scorer, will be out for an indefinite period due to a torn ligament in his right wrist.
Miller, selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, did not participate in the Hornets’ recent 125-123 win against the Chicago Bulls. Initially diagnosed with a “wrist sprain,” it was later revealed that the injury was more severe, involving a torn ligament.
Following his injury in a game against Utah, Miller underwent an MRI that confirmed the ligament tear. The Hornets have indicated that they will provide further updates regarding his condition when appropriate.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling—while we’re pleased with the victory, it’s unfortunate news regarding Brandon,” commented Hornets coach Charles Lee. “We’ll continue assessing his situation and conduct as many tests as necessary. It’s important that we unite as a team and support him during his rehabilitation.”
The 22-year-old Miller has been a key player for the team, averaging 21 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists over 34.2 minutes per game in 27 appearances this season. He received recognition by finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting last year after just one season at Alabama before entering the professional league.
Teammate LaMelo Ball shared his thoughts on the unfortunate development: “It certainly stings. I found myself in a similar situation during my rookie or sophomore year. Being surrounded by the whole team will help him a bit. I recall my experience and the importance of having your teammates around, but these are undoubtedly tough times.”
