Corey Seager assures readiness for Rangers spring training following two hernia surgeries last year.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Corey Seager, the All-Star shortstop and two-time World Series MVP, has expressed enthusiasm about his readiness for the upcoming spring training with the Texas Rangers after undergoing hernia surgery twice last year.

On Friday night, prior to the team’s annual awards banquet, where he was honored as the Rangers’ player of the year, Seager shared his thoughts. “It’s been a pretty typical offseason, which is a refreshing change. It’s been quite a while since I’ve had one like this,” he stated. “I’ve been able to hit the gym, get back in shape, and prepare myself properly.”

Seager underwent surgery to repair a right sports hernia on September 13. This followed an earlier surgery on January 30 for a left hernia, which hindered his participation in most of spring training last year; however, he managed to be ready for the season opener.

Despite the challenges posed by the surgeries, Seager performed admirably, finishing the season with a .278 batting average, 30 home runs, and 74 RBIs over 123 games. After a slow start to the season, he rebounded by hitting .296, with 28 home runs and 66 RBIs in 94 games following May.

Reflecting on his recovery process, Seager said, “Knowing what to expect might have made it a bit easier this time around. I wasn’t as anxious about certain sensations that come with recovery. Once the six-week mark passed, I was ready to hit the ground running and could ease into things more gradually than I did last spring.”

During the postseason, where the Rangers clinched their first World Series title in 2023, Seager managed to play through the discomfort from his left hernia issue. He posted an impressive .318 batting average, along with six home runs, 12 RBIs, and 15 walks over the course of 17 postseason games.

As the Rangers gear up for spring training, fans can look forward to seeing Seager back at full strength as the team aims for further success in the upcoming season.
