Thunder’s Chet Holmgren out for a minimum of three additional weeks due to hip fracture recovery

Oklahoma City is facing a setback with their forward Chet Holmgren, who is likely to be unavailable until early February as he recovers from a hip fracture.
The team confirmed on Friday that the 7-foot-1 player, known for his versatility, will be assessed again in three to five weeks.
Holmgren, who was a candidate for Rookie of the Year last season, suffered the injury in early November while averaging 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks over his first ten games.
Initially, the Thunder anticipated his return this season, planning for an evaluation period of eight to ten weeks.

Despite Holmgren’s absence, the Thunder have maintained a strong position, currently leading the Western Conference.
With their recent victory against Cleveland on Thursday night, their record improved to 34-6.
The injury occurred when Holmgren attempted to defend against a layup and collided with Golden State’s Andrew Wiggins, resulting in a hard fall.

In place of Holmgren, 7-foot Isaiah Hartenstein has stepped up to fill the team’s need for a strong inside presence.
Hartenstein, who previously played for the New York Knicks, had missed the initial 15 games of the season due to a fractured left hand but has since returned, averaging 11.8 points and 12.2 rebounds over 24 games.
Unfortunately, he is currently sidelined due to a strained left calf, preventing him and Holmgren from playing alongside each other thus far this season.
