LONDON — The highly anticipated boxing match featuring Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. is officially set to take place. Promoters Eddie Hearn and Turki Alalshikh confirmed on Wednesday that the bout will occur in London in April, reigniting a rivalry that spans over three decades, dating back to when their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank, squared off twice in the boxing ring, creating a legendary fixture in British sports.

Originally, Benn and Eubank Jr. were scheduled to face off at the O2 Arena in London in October 2022, but the event was abruptly canceled after Benn tested positive in a voluntary doping test. Following a lengthy two-year battle to clear his name, Benn’s suspension was finally lifted last November.

“We have the contract signed,” Hearn announced, expressing his excitement. “Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank is confirmed, two years after we initially planned to hold it.” On social media, the 28-year-old Benn shared images of himself finalizing the agreement with Hearn and Alalshikh, who is known for organizing boxing events in Saudi Arabia.

“You’ve sealed your fate!” Benn proclaimed in a message directed at Eubank Jr. The 35-year-old Eubank Jr. took to his Instagram story to share a photo from the signing along with a bold statement: “Conor Benn just signed his own death sentence.”

As they prepare for the showdown, it is reported that Benn will need to move up from welterweight to compete against Eubank, although the specific weight class for their fight has not yet been disclosed. The history of their fathers’ confrontations in 1990 and 1993 adds a layer of intensity and expectation to this upcoming bout.
