KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Patrick Mahomes has been focused on the playoffs while also preparing for the arrival of his third child. On Tuesday, the quarterback of the Chiefs shared that his wife, Brittany, allowed him to watch some of the wild-card playoff games on Sunday as they awaited her delivery. The couple welcomed their second daughter, Golden Raye, joining their family along with three-year-old Sterling and two-year-old Bronze.

“Brittany did an amazing job,” Mahomes remarked before heading to practice ahead of Saturday’s divisional-round game against the Texans, who had recently delivered a decisive win against the Chargers in the wild-card round. “It’s been wonderful to introduce another baby girl into our family and observe how my other children reacted. Having a baby sister is a joyous addition.” Mahomes also expressed his enjoyment of being able to watch football while in the hospital.

As a passionate football fan, Mahomes was pleased that the schedule aligned well for him. The Chiefs secured the No. 1 seed and a bye for the playoffs before their Week 18 game in Denver, which Mahomes missed, along with other key players. This allowed him to concentrate on his family’s special moment without the stress of facing a first-round playoff adversary.

When questioned if the arrival of baby No. 3 was easier than the first two, Mahomes responded diplomatically, acknowledging Brittany’s efforts: “I don’t want to say that because Brittany is doing everything.” He praised the bye week, noting it gave him the chance to fully experience the hospital visit. “It’s unique for parents; those moments are unforgettable,” he reflected.

Now, Mahomes is ready to create more memories as the Chiefs strive to achieve a historic feat of winning three consecutive Lombardi Trophies. Early betting lines at BetMGM Sportsbook have the Chiefs as 8.5-point favorites against the Texans, and they hold the second-best odds for the Super Bowl, just behind the NFC’s top-seeded Detroit Lions.

Mahomes noted, “Every year holds its significance.” While he aspires to secure a third consecutive title and create indelible memories along with his teammates and the community, he also cherishes the unique experiences each season has provided. “Looking back at the Super Bowl victories, I recall all the special moments and games we’ve had,” he shared. They faced the Texans just before Christmas in a demanding schedule where both teams played three times within 11 days. The Chiefs have a four-game winning streak against Houston, dating back to the 2020 playoffs, when they overcame a 24-0 deficit to triumph in a remarkable 51-31 comeback victory, leading to Mahomes’ first Super Bowl championship.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid commented on the benefits of the bye week, stating that the extended break has allowed crucial players ample recovery time and led to the healthiest condition the team has been in throughout the season as they head into the playoffs. “The players have positive attitudes. They put in a solid effort last week, and many came in for additional work even on their days off. They’re eager, knowing that they’re up against a formidable opponent,” Reid stated.

In injury updates, cornerback Jaylen Watson, who has been sidelined since October 20 due to a broken ankle, might be ready to play for the first time this Saturday. Reid noted, “I’m not saying he will be able to manage a full game, but there’s a good chance he could contribute.” Additionally, the Chiefs are planning to alternate Joe Thuney and D.J. Humphries in practice as they choose a starting left tackle. Thuney had shifted from guard late in the season to improve protection for Mahomes, while Humphries is now fit after dealing with a hamstring issue. Reid mentioned, “We’ll assess how their practice week goes.”
