ANN ARBOR, Mich. — A considerable disturbance occurred in a high school parking area when over twenty vehicles were vandalized during a men’s college basketball event at the nearby University of Michigan.
According to reports from local authorities, the incidents took place on Sunday as the U-M Wolverines faced off against the Washington Huskies at Crisler Arena. A total of 27 vehicles sustained damage due to smashed windows and break-ins. So far, law enforcement has yet to make any arrests.
Spectators returning from the game were met with the unpleasant sight of shattered glass littering the ground. Items including cash, purses, and wallets were reported stolen from the vehicles, leaving many fans in disbelief at the loss they faced.
Joe Weitz, a resident of Kalamazoo, expressed his disappointment after attending the event with his 8-year-old daughter, who was experiencing her first Michigan basketball game. “Everything was fantastic until we returned to our car and saw the glass spread everywhere,” he recounted to reporters.
Weitz described the experience as “pretty devastating,” noting the emotional toll it took on his daughter, who was upset to learn that their belongings had been rummaged through. The incident has raised concerns among attendees about security measures in local parking areas during large events.
The police continue to investigate the situation, urging anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, victims are advised to secure their vehicles and belongings to prevent similar incidents in the future.
