Romelle Mansel delivered an impressive performance, scoring 23 points as Jackson State triumphed over Alabama A&M with a thrilling 103-93 victory in a triple overtime showdown on Monday evening.
Lorenzo Downey began the third overtime by hitting a layup, giving Alabama A&M an early advantage. However, Mansel quickly responded with a 3-pointer followed by a dunk that enabled the Tigers to gain momentum and pull ahead in the tense matchup.
In addition to his scoring, Mansel contributed five rebounds, four steals, and three blocks, helping to secure the win for the Tigers (3-13, 3-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference). Keiveon Hunt also made a significant impact, finishing with 18 points along with five assists and three steals. Daeshun Ruffin added 17 points, five assists, and four steals to the Tigers’ performance.
AC Bryant had a standout game for the Bulldogs, sinking six 3-pointers and achieving a career-high of 39 points, complemented by 10 rebounds. Downey supported his team with 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, while Quincy McGriff contributed with 10 points.
The final moments of regulation were intense, with Hunt hitting a crucial 3-pointer with just 12 seconds left, tying the game at 67 and forcing overtime. Ruffin contributed with a layup that evened the score at 77, leading to a second overtime. Finally, Mansel’s layup with just three seconds remaining tied the game at 88, compelling a third overtime period.
