OXFORD, Miss. — Aaliyah Nye delivered an outstanding performance, sinking seven 3-pointers and achieving a career-high 32 points, leading the No. 18 ranked Alabama women’s basketball team to a strong recovery with an 84-78 victory against Mississippi on Sunday.

The Crimson Tide had recently faced a significant defeat, getting overwhelmed 84-40 by No. 5 Texas just days prior.

Ole Miss began the game with an early 7-0 advantage and held a slim 17-14 lead at the start of the second quarter. However, Nye’s jumper initiated a 6-0 rally for Alabama, allowing them to seize the lead. With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Nye and teammate Zaay Green made consecutive 3-pointers, establishing a lead that the Tide would maintain for the remainder of the match.

Green contributed significantly, hitting a long-range shot and a layup, while JeAnna Cunningham added to the scoring with a free throw, expanding Alabama’s lead to 12 points by the late third quarter, making it 51-39. In the fourth quarter, Nye managed to keep Ole Miss at a distance with three more 3-pointers, although the Rebels attempted a comeback, aided by late 3-pointers from Tameiya Sadler and KK Deans that narrowed the gap to five points in the final minute. Nye then secured the victory with a free throw.

Nye had struggled from long range in the previous game against Texas, where she only made 1 of 8 attempts, but she rebounded effectively, hitting 7 of 11 from 3-point territory this time. Zaay Green also had a standout game, making 4 of 5 from beyond the arc to tally 27 points, while Diana Collins chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Tide converted 12 of 19 attempts from 3-point range and shot 28 of 50 overall.

For Mississippi, Starr Jacobs was the standout performer with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Teammates Kennedy Todd-Williams and Christeen Iwuala each contributed 11 points, while KK Deans added 13 points off the bench.

The Alabama squad will return home to face No. 2 South Carolina, while Ole Miss is scheduled to host Florida on Thursday.
