Red Wings dominate Kraken 6-2, securing their seventh consecutive victory

DETROIT — In a commanding performance, Patrick Kane got on the scoreboard early for the Red Wings, contributing to a 6-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday. This win marks the seventh consecutive triumph for Detroit.

The Red Wings stormed ahead with a quick four-goal lead just 7:53 into the first period, thanks to goals from Marco Kasper, J.T. Compher, Alex DeBrincat, and Kane. In the second period, Erik Gustafsson and Dylan Larkin added to the onslaught with two more goals for Detroit.

This winning streak is the longest for the Red Wings in nearly 13 years, echoing their previous two seven-game streaks during the 2011-12 season, the latest being from January 12 to January 23, 2012.

On the Kraken side, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Matty Beniers managed to find the back of the net amidst their defeat. The team’s goaltender, Philipp Grubauer, was pulled from the game after allowing three goals on just four shots, leading to Joey Daccord stepping in, who made 16 saves. Unfortunately for Seattle, this was their fifth loss in the last six games.

Cam Talbot made a significant impact for the Red Wings, recording 31 saves to secure the win.

In the assessment of the game’s dynamics, the Kraken struggled significantly at Little Caesars Arena, a venue where they previously enjoyed success with a record of 4-0-2 before this match. Grubauer also had a solid 4-0-1 history against the Red Wings before this outing.

For the Red Wings, the linemates Kane and DeBrincat enhanced their point streaks to seven games each with their goals in the first period. Together, they have amassed an impressive total of 11 goals and 13 assists during this ongoing winning streak.

A pivotal moment in the game came when Compher scored a mere 11 seconds after Kasper had opened the scoring for Detroit, showcasing their fast-paced play. Compher successfully tipped in a shot from Vladimir Tarasenko after winning a faceoff in the Kraken’s zone.

Statistically, the Red Wings demonstrated their power play prowess, converting their first three power play opportunities. They have gone 14 for 28 on power plays in the eight games since Todd McLellan assumed the coaching role.

Looking ahead, the Kraken are set to continue their five-game road trip with a matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday, while the Red Wings will conclude their four-game homestand, facing the San Jose Sharks on the same day.
