Hyman nets goal in the final period as Oilers comeback to defeat Blackhawks 4-3

CHICAGO — The Edmonton Oilers edged out the Chicago Blackhawks with a score of 4-3 on Saturday night, thanks to a crucial power-play goal from Zach Hyman in the third period.

Hyman’s goal, which was his 14th of the season, came at 7:18 of the third period while Blackhawks defenseman Nolan Allan served time in the penalty box for tripping. The Oilers, who completed a successful 3-1 road trip, also saw contributions from Adam Henrique, Corey Perry, and Vasily Podkolzin, while Leon Draisaitl recorded two assists in the match.

For the Blackhawks, the loss marked their eighth out of ten games, putting a halt to Connor Bedard’s impressive nine-game point streak. Teuvo Teravainen and Nick Foligno each notched a goal and an assist, trying to rally the team after their earlier victory over the Oilers on October 12.

The match kicked off with Chicago taking a quick lead as Teravainen scored just 4:45 into the first period. His 10th goal was promptly followed by Foligno’s, which was set up by Teravainen’s assist that caught the Oilers off guard, giving the Blackhawks a 2-0 advantage with less than five minutes left in the opening frame.

Midway through the second period, Ryan Donato extended the Blackhawks’ lead to 3-1 with his 13th goal of the season. However, the Oilers began to increase their pressure, and Henrique responded with a deft tip-in that slipped through Chicago goalie Arvid Soderblom’s legs at 15:49. Perry brought the score to a tie with 2:30 remaining in the second period as the Oilers maintained their momentum.

Observations from the game revealed a relatively subdued performance from Connor McDavid for Edmonton, yet the team found ways to secure the win against their rivals. Teravainen continued to shine for Chicago, tallying a total of four goals and 13 assists over his last 13 games.

A significant moment came when Henrique was penalized for high-sticking with less than a minute left, but the Blackhawks were unable to capitalize on the opportunity to equalize the score.

In terms of statistics, Draisaitl’s impressive record against Chicago stands at 17 goals and 22 assists over the span of 26 career matches. Both the Oilers and Blackhawks are set to return to their home arenas on Monday night, with Edmonton facing Los Angeles and Chicago taking on Calgary.
