Zach Freemantle was instrumental in Xavier’s 77-63 win over DePaul on Saturday night, coming off the bench to score 20 points.
Alongside his scoring, Freemantle contributed significantly on the boards, finishing with 10 rebounds for the Musketeers, who now hold a 10-7 overall record and 2-4 in the Big East Conference.
Ryan Conwell also had a standout performance, shooting 50% from the field, including two 3-pointers, and converting all seven of his free-throw attempts to net 19 points.
Jerome Hunter added to the team’s offense with 10 points and an efficient 4 for 6 shooting.
On the other side, CJ Gunn led the Blue Demons with 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Jacob Meyer supported with 14 points, while N.J. Benson scored 13 points, along with two steals and three blocks for DePaul, who now stand at 9-8 with a disappointing 0-6 record in the conference.
Xavier established their dominance late in the first half, seizing the lead with 5:55 left and never looking back.
Freemantle was key during this stretch, scoring nine points before halftime which helped Xavier to a solid 38-23 advantage by the break.
The Musketeers started the second half strong with a 10-0 run, ballooning their lead from 11 to 21 points.
Even though DePaul outscored them by a single point in the second half, Xavier remained in control, with Conwell leading the way by scoring 13 points after the break.
Both teams are set to return to action on Tuesday.
Xavier will host Villanova, while DePaul is scheduled to face Marquette at home.
