WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Abdi Bashir Jr. delivered an impressive performance with 22 points, leading Monmouth to a victory over Charleston with a final score of 84-73 on Saturday.

Bashir also contributed five rebounds and five assists, showcasing his all-around play for the Hawks, who improved their record to 4-13 and 2-2 in the Coastal Athletic Association. Madison Durr was a key contributor as well, scoring 18 points while shooting 7 of 10 from the field and dishing out six assists. Dok Muordar also added to the team’s success by finishing with 14 points.

On the other hand, the Cougars, who now stand at 13-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play, were powered by Deywilk Tavarez. He recorded a solid performance with 20 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Charleston saw additional scoring from Derrin Boyd, who chipped in 14 points. Ante Brzovic contributed with 11 points, six rebounds, and two blocks. This loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Cougars, marking a disappointing end to their run.

Bashir made his impact felt early, scoring 13 points in the first half as Monmouth entered halftime down by a narrow margin of 38-35. The Hawks turned the momentum in the second half, executing a pivotal 9-0 run that allowed them to overcome a three-point deficit and establish a lead of 44-38 just over two minutes into the half. Durr continued to build on Monmouth’s success by scoring 13 points in the second half, helping secure the victory for his team.
