Timothée Chalamet makes a comeback to ‘SNL’ as both the host and musical performer

NEW YORK — Timothée Chalamet is set to make his third appearance as host on “Saturday Night Live,” and this time he will also serve as the musical guest.
NBC made the announcement this past Friday, revealing that comedian Dave Chappelle will take the reins as host on January 18, with GloRilla providing the musical performance. Chalamet’s episode is scheduled for January 25.

This marks Chappelle’s fourth hosting gig on the iconic sketch show. All three entertainers are currently navigating a busy awards season, with Chappelle and GloRilla each receiving Grammy nominations for the upcoming ceremony on February 2. Chalamet is also in the awards race, recognized for his performance in “A Complete Unknown,” which has put him in contention for an Oscar nomination, with announcements slated for January 19.

In “A Complete Unknown,” Chalamet not only portrays Bob Dylan but also took the effort to learn guitar and harmonica for the role. While it is unknown what he plans to perform during the live episode, fans speculate he might treat them with a song from his past performances, especially since he showcased his singing ability in “Wonka.”
Chalamet previously expressed his appreciation for Dylan’s work, revealing a fondness for more intimate tracks such as “Girl From the North Country,” “Boots of Spanish Leather,” “One Too Many Mornings,” and “Tomorrow Is a Long Time.” He noted an attraction to songs that evoke the raw feeling of Dylan’s voice, often reflecting the Northern landscapes of Minnesota and personal experiences.

Notably, Bob Dylan himself has made a guest appearance on “SNL” back in 1979, appearing as a musical guest. James Austin Johnson, a current cast member who recently portrayed Dylan in a skit, has a brief role in “A Complete Unknown.”

As “Saturday Night Live” celebrates its landmark 50th season, viewers can anticipate special anniversary programming. The show plans to resume in mid-February to honor its long-standing legacy, culminating in a live broadcast event titled “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” set for February 16.
