Orem, Utah — In a competitive matchup on Thursday night, Utah Valley secured a 72-64 victory over Grand Canyon, led by a standout performance from Dominick Nelson, who scored 21 points.
Nelson further contributed to the Wolverines’ effort with eight rebounds, helping his team improve to a record of 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Tanner Toolson also played a crucial role, finishing the game with 17 points. He showed impressive shooting accuracy, going 6 of 11 from the field, including two successful three-pointers out of five attempts, while also hitting three of four free throws and grabbing seven rebounds.
Carter Welling added to the scoring with nine points, although he struggled with his shooting, making only two of ten attempts from the field and missing all three of his three-point attempts, but managed to convert five out of eight from the charity stripe.

On the opposing side, Tyon Grant-Foster was the standout performer for Grand Canyon, contributing 22 points along with eight rebounds, two steals, and four blocks.
Rayshon Harrison also chipped in with 11 points, while Collin Moore scored nine points and recorded two steals. This loss for the Antelopes marks the end of their five-game winning streak as they now hold an overall record of 11-5 and 1-1 in the conference.

Looking ahead, Utah Valley will be back in action on Saturday as they host Cal Baptist, while Grand Canyon will prepare to face Abilene Christian at home next Thursday.
