PARIS — Ousmane Dembélé netted a dramatic stoppage-time goal to secure a 1-0 victory for Paris Saint-Germain over Monaco in the Champions Trophy held on Sunday.
The French winger found himself unmarked at the back post to convert a low cross from Fabian Ruiz just moments into added time.
With this win, PSG clinched the French Super Cup, marking their third consecutive title and a record 13th overall.
Last season, PSG completed the league and cup double, while Monaco finished as runners-up in the league.
PSG’s coach Luis Enrique reflected on the match, stating that the outcome mirrored their superiority on the pitch.
Monaco’s coach, Adi Hütter, admitted that PSG was the better team.
“A goal in the last minute always feels like a knife in the back,” Hütter lamented.
He added that PSG rightfully earned the win, having created more scoring opportunities.
The encounter took place at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar, where PSG has been owned by Qatar Sports Investments since 2011.
Early on, PSG’s Désiré Doué struck the crossbar, and Monaco’s goalkeeper Philipp Köhn made a series of key saves.
The match saw Monaco bounce back after halftime, with Eliesse Ben Seghir and Brazilian defender Vanderson both hitting the post.
Although Köhn thwarted Achraf Hakimi’s attempt in the 74th minute, he ultimately misjudged Ruiz’s cross, leading to Monaco’s quest for the trophy continuing since their last win in 2000.
Marseille, meanwhile, solidified their position in second place in the French league by defeating Le Havre 5-1 at home.
Ghanaian winger André Ayew played against his former team, having previously scored 60 goals for Marseille during his time from 2007 to 2015.
Marseille struck first in the 25th minute with a low shot from midfielder Valentin Rongier, before Bilal Nadir netted his first league goal in the 39th minute.
Nadir’s moment was particularly significant as he had battled back from a ruptured ACL injury one year ago and received a new contract from the club as a gesture of support.
Just before halftime, Neal Maupay extended the lead with a close-range header, and Mason Greenwood assisted substitute Elye Wahi in the second half for the fourth goal.
Ulisses Garcia capped the scoring for coach Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
In the 85th minute, home supporters at Stade Velodrome cheered as Ayew managed to score a consolation goal before he acknowledged their support.
Currently, PSG leads Marseille by seven points after 16 rounds of league play.
In other matches, Toulouse climbed to eighth place with a 1-0 victory at seventh-placed Lens, with Zakaria Aboukhlal converting a penalty in the 73rd minute.
This goal occurred shortly after Lens midfielder David Pereira da Costa received a second yellow card and was sent off following a video review.
Angers triumphed over Brest with a 2-0 score, and Strasbourg came from behind to secure a 3-1 home win against Auxerre, moving them into 10th position.
Esteban Lepaul opened the scoring for Angers, while Ibrahima Niane sealed their victory with a stoppage-time goal.
Strasbourg netted goals from captain Habib Diarra, Félix Lemarechal, and forward Emanuel Emegha after Auxerre initially took the lead through Hamed Traore.
