PORTLAND, Ore. — In a decisive performance, Augustas Marciulionis propelled Saint Mary’s to a commanding 81-58 victory over Portland on Saturday, scoring 20 points.
Marciulionis contributed significantly with six rebounds and six assists for the Gaels, who improved their record to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the West Coast Conference. Jordan Ross also made an impact, hitting 5 of 9 shots from the field and finishing with 14 points, including connecting on 2 of his 4 attempts from three-point range. Mikey Lewis had a solid outing as well, scoring 12 points on 3 of 8 shooting, while also being flawless at the free-throw line, going 5 for 5.
On the other side, the Pilots, now at 5-12 and 0-4 in conference play, were led by Max Mackinnon with 12 points. A.Rapp contributed with 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, while Mikah Ballew added eight points.
The Gaels took control of the game with 5:19 remaining in the first half and never looked back. Ross was pivotal during the first half, finishing with 10 points to help Saint Mary’s hold a 28-19 lead at halftime. In the second half, a critical 12-0 scoring spurt allowed them to stretch a 13-point lead into a 25-point advantage. They outscored the Pilots by 14 points in the second half, with Marciulionis leading the charge, scoring 14 of his total points after the break.
This victory showcases Saint Mary’s impressive form as they continue to establish themselves in the conference standings.
