MONTGOMERY, Ala. — In a decisive showdown on Saturday night, Alabama State triumphed over Mississippi Valley State with a score of 84-55. Micah Octave led the charge for the Hornets, contributing 14 points and securing nine rebounds, showcasing a strong performance on both ends of the court.
Alongside Octave, CJ Hines also made a significant impact, scoring 14 points as well. He demonstrated efficiency, hitting 4 of 6 shots from the field and converting all six of his free-throw attempts, in addition to assisting his teammates with six assists. Furthermore, Amarr Knox added to the offense with 13 points, managing to shoot 4 for 10 from the field, including one 3-pointer, and hitting all his free throw attempts, going 4 for 4.
On the opposing side, the Delta Devils were unable to keep pace and fell to 2-12 on the season, underlining a challenging start to their campaign with this being their first Southwestern Athletic Conference match. Alvin Stredic Jr. stood out for Mississippi Valley State by scoring an impressive 21 points and gathering nine rebounds, although it wasn’t enough to secure a win. His teammate, Donovan Sanders, contributed ten points and claimed two steals, while Arthur Tate scored seven points in the battling effort.
As the Hornets improve to a record of 5-9 with their first conference victory, they look to build on this momentum in the upcoming games. The Delta Devils, on the other hand, will seek to regroup and formulate a strategy to turn their season around.
