DALLAS — Duke’s head coach Jon Scheyer was unable to accompany the fourth-ranked Blue Devils for their Saturday matchup against SMU due to health issues.
The university shared the news via a social media update shortly before the game commenced, stating that associate head coach Chris Carrawell would take charge in Scheyer’s absence during the contest against the Mustangs.
Scheyer, 37 years old, is anticipated to make a return to his coaching duties for the home game on Tuesday against Pittsburgh. This marks an unusual circumstance for Scheyer, as it is his first instance of missing a game in his tenure as head coach, which now spans three seasons.
This match against SMU is particularly significant, as it is the first time the Mustangs are hosting a well-known program from the Atlantic Coast Conference since the school’s recent membership transition.
