SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama concluded an impressive month in the NBA, contributing 27 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in just 26 minutes of play, leading the San Antonio Spurs to a decisive 122-86 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday.
Wembanyama made history by becoming the first player ever to score at least 300 points, grab 100 rebounds, achieve 50 blocks, record 50 assists, and sink 40 three-pointers within a single month.
Keldon Johnson supported the effort with 17 points, while Stephon Castle added 15 for the Spurs. Despite entering the game with a three-game winning streak, the Clippers struggled with their shooting, making only 11 out of 41 attempts from beyond the arc. James Harden led the Clippers in scoring with 17 points, and Norman Powell contributed 15.
Wembanyama’s performance in the first quarter was particularly remarkable, as he scored 17 points, matching the entire Clippers’ score for that period. Although he managed just four points in the second quarter, two of those came off a spectacular dunk after receiving a pass off the backboard from Chris Paul.
The Spurs built a comfortable lead of 25 points in the second quarter, which expanded to 34 points by the fourth quarter, allowing Wembanyama to sit out the last portion of the game with 8:39 left.
In terms of notable highlights for the Clippers, center Ivica Zubac was limited to just five points on a 2-for-7 shooting performance. For the Spurs, forward Jeremy Sochan did not return for the second half due to a lower back injury sustained in the second quarter; he ended the game with four points and five rebounds across 15 minutes of play.
A pivotal moment in the game occurred early in the first quarter when Wembanyama executed a remarkable block on Zubac under the rim with 9:47 on the clock. Following that play, he also received the inbounds pass from Chris Paul and made his only three-pointer of the game.
In a key statistic, Wembanyama has recorded at least one block and one three-pointer in 24 consecutive games, setting a new record for the longest streak in league history. Additionally, his streak of games with at least one block now stands at 67.
Looking ahead, the Clippers will face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, while the Spurs are set to play against the Denver Nuggets on Friday.
