Grizzlies report Ja Morant has a right shoulder sprain and will be evaluated weekly.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Monday that Ja Morant has sustained a sprained right shoulder, and his status will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.

Morant suffered the injury during the third quarter of the Grizzlies’ 132-124 win against New Orleans when he collided with a legal screen set by Daniel Theis. Following the incident, he was seen keeping his right arm positioned lower than his injured shoulder as he returned to the bench area.

According to the Grizzlies, Morant has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 AC joint sprain, and additional updates regarding his condition will be released as necessary.

Last season, Morant faced significant setbacks, participating in only nine games before a torn labrum in the same shoulder prematurely concluded his campaign. This season, he is averaging 21.2 points over 20 games played, but his journey has not been without challenges; earlier in the season, he missed eight games due to a posterior hip subluxation and several Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains.

As the team and fans watch closely, Morant’s recovery will be key for the Grizzlies as they continue the season without one of their star players. Updates will certainly be anticipated as they work to navigate this difficult time.
