BATON ROUGE, La. — On Sunday, No. 6 LSU secured an impressive 83-61 victory against Albany, with standout performances from players. Aneesah Morrow was a key player for the Tigers, contributing 20 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Morrow’s efforts included a double-double, especially highlighting her performance during a game-closing surge where LSU dominated with a 25-2 run. Mikaylah Williams supported her team with 18 points, while Flau’Jae Johnson added 15 points along with nine rebounds, as the Tigers improved their record to 15-0, marking one of their best starts in program history.

In contrast, Albany’s team saw Kaci Donovan leading their scoring with 17 points, of which 15 came in the first half. Teammates Lilly Phillips and Kayla Cooper both chipped in with 14 points each. Albany had a solid start to the game, going into halftime with a 38-34 lead while limiting fast-break points from LSU to just seven in the first half. They consciously chose to forgo offensive rebounds in order to prioritize a quick retreat to defense against LSU’s rapid scoring pace.

Noteworthy moments came as LSU faced early struggles, having trailed at the end of the first quarter and at halftime in previous competitive matchups against strong teams like Washington and Stanford. Against Albany, LSU’s rocky start included six turnovers in their first dozen possessions, allowing Albany to capitalize and take an early 25-16 lead with their efficient shooting.

The turning point in the game occurred when Williams and Morrow executed critical steals, which led to swift assists for Johnson, resulting in consecutive fastbreak layups. This pivotal moment ignited LSU’s game-turning 25-2 run over the last 7:41 of the match, flipping an earlier deficit into a commanding 22-point win.

Interestingly, LSU secured victory despite struggling from beyond the arc, hitting only 1 of their 13 attempts from three-point range. Looking ahead, Albany will kick off their America East Conference play at home against Vermont on Thursday, while LSU is set to open SEC play at Arkansas on the same day.
