RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — In a highly anticipated rematch against heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury registered a career-high weight of 281 pounds at the weigh-in held on Friday.
This marks a significant increase for Fury, who weighs 55 pounds more than Usyk, who tipped the scales at 226 pounds. In their previous encounter in May, Fury was lighter, weighing in at 262 pounds when he suffered a split decision loss to Usyk.
This latest weight is the heaviest Fury has ever been for a fight, exceeding the 277.7 pounds he recorded when he defeated Deontay Wilder in the seventh round of their championship bout in February 2020.
Usyk, the Ukrainian fighter who clinched the Olympic gold in 2012, weighed slightly more than he did in their first match, where he was at 223.5 pounds.
Standing at 6-foot-9, Fury is noticeably taller than Usyk, who is six inches shorter. The weigh-in event was held at the Wonder Garden in Saudi Arabia, where the two fighters faced each other briefly before parting ways in different directions.
