Stolen Baby Jesus statue from Colorado nativity display returned with a note of apology

DENVER — A figurine of baby Jesus that was taken from a nativity display in Colorado has been returned just in time for the holiday season, along with an apology from the culprit.

The statue, which depicts Jesus resting in a manger, was stolen from a public exhibit located in downtown Fort Collins early on Sunday morning. However, it was mysteriously dropped off at a nearby fire station on Thursday, according to local authorities. Along with the figurine, the individual included a note that read, “I’m really sorry. I made a dumb mistake in the moment. It won’t happen again.”

The return of the statue came just two days after police shared surveillance footage of the individual who was believed to have taken the figurine. The footage indicated that the suspect was either a teenager or a young adult.

As of Friday, police stated that they had no additional details regarding the identity of the person who committed the act. Although the fire station is equipped with a motion-activated camera, it unfortunately did not capture any footage when the figurine was returned.

The organization responsible for maintaining the nativity scene has chosen not to seek any legal action against the individual who took the statue.
