HOUSTON — Terrance Arceneaux achieved a personal best of 16 points and contributed nine rebounds from the bench as No. 15 Houston triumphed over Toledo with a score of 78-49 on Wednesday evening.

Joseph Tugler added 13 points, while Emanuel Sharp also scored 13 of his points in the opening half. Both Milos Uzan and Mylik Wilson contributed 10 points each, leading Houston to its 28th consecutive victory at home. The Cougars posted a shooting percentage of 45%, though they struggled beyond the arc, making only 4 of 24 attempts from three-point range.

Sharp experienced a minor setback early in the game, leaving the court hobbled after colliding with Jaylan Ouwinga. Fortunately, he returned to the game just under five minutes later.

For Toledo, Sam Lewis led with 14 points, while Javan Simmons added nine points to the effort. However, the Rockets faced challenges with their shooting, finishing at 30% and making 5 of their 18 attempts from three-point territory.

In terms of takeaways, Toledo struggled to cope with Houston’s size and speed offensively but was active defensively, forcing 12 turnovers throughout the match. Conversely, Houston has experienced foul difficulties in recent contests, particularly among its post players, with three of the four in foul trouble during the first half. Ja’Vier Francis and Cedric Lath each accumulated three fouls by halftime.

A pivotal moment in the game occurred when Houston quickly established a commanding 22-5 lead, culminating in a jumper by Tugler with 9 and a half minutes remaining in the first half. After Toledo managed its first field goal, the Rockets missed the next ten attempts, allowing the Cougars to extend their lead to 17 points.

The key statistic from the matchup was Houston’s dominance on the boards, out-rebounding Toledo 50-29, and achieving a significant advantage of 24-3 in second-chance points.

Looking ahead, Houston is scheduled to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, while Toledo will travel to face Purdue on December 29.
