HATTIESBURG, Miss. — In an exciting match on Tuesday night, Lamar edged out Southern Miss with a score of 69-65, thanks to a standout performance by Alexis Marmolejos, who tallied 20 points.
Marmolejos had a mixed shooting night, going 6 for 19 overall, which included hitting 3 of 7 attempts from beyond the arc and converting 5 of 6 free throws. The victory improved Lamar’s record to 6-5 this season.
Cody Pennebaker contributed significantly to the win as well, scoring 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting, including 3 of 5 from three-point range. Andrew Holifield rounded out the notable performances by adding 12 points while also grabbing seven rebounds, making three steals, and blocking four shots.
On the opposing side, the Golden Eagles, now 4-7, were spearheaded by Neftali Alvarez, who delivered an impressive performance with 21 points, along with seven assists and three steals.
