Bjorkstrand nets a pair as Kraken defeat Bruins 5-1

SEATTLE – In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, the Seattle Kraken triumphed over the Boston Bruins with a commanding 5-1 victory on Thursday night.

Oliver Bjorkstrand was the standout player, netting two goals, while goaltender Philipp Grubauer showcased his prowess with 33 saves during the match.

Supporting efforts came from Jaden Schwartz and Vince Dunn who each contributed goals for the Kraken, and Jared McCann found the net in an empty goal while also assisting on another. Shane Wright further enhanced the team’s performance by providing two assists.

The Bruins managed to score their only goal through Brad Marchand, who successfully converted a penalty shot awarded in the second period.

Seattle wasted no time asserting their dominance, quickly establishing a 2-0 lead in the first period. Bjorkstrand opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the game on a power play, taking advantage of a double minor committed by David Pastrnak for high-sticking. About five minutes later, Schwartz added to the tally with a skillful backhand that slipped past goalie Joonas Korpisalo.

In the third period, Dunn extended Seattle’s lead by batting the puck into the net, a goal that was upheld after a review. The Kraken then made it 4-1 with Wright assisting Bjorkstrand for his 11th goal of the season at 9:16.

Notably, Bjorkstrand has been on fire, accumulating 14 points in the last 11 games.

In terms of team performance, it was highlighted that ten different players from the Kraken recorded points throughout the match, demonstrating the depth of their lineup. Meanwhile, the Bruins have struggled defensively, allowing 13 goals in their first two outings of the current road trip.

A pivotal moment occurred in the second period when a shot from John Beecher narrowly slipped under Grubauer but was subsequently halted by Brandon Montour, who dove into the crease to cover the puck. Although a review confirmed that the puck had not fully crossed the goal line, Montour was penalized for covering it, leading to Marchand’s penalty shot score.

Despite outshooting the Kraken 34 to 21, the Bruins couldn’t find their rhythm and faced a daunting task moving forward.

Looking ahead, the Kraken will play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, while the Bruins continue their five-game road trip with a matchup against the Vancouver Canucks.
