A small aircraft tragically crashed onto a highway in Westchester County, New York, on Thursday evening, resulting in the death of one of the two individuals onboard, while the other sustained injuries, according to officials.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. and led to significant traffic disruptions on Interstate 684 in Harrison, located approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) northeast of New York City.
Footage from the site captured the white aircraft crumpled against a guardrail in the highway’s median, surrounded by emergency responders who closed off all lanes of traffic.
Governor Kathy Hochul mentioned that the Department of Environmental Conservation was present to address the cleanup process concerning spilled aviation fuel.
“My heart goes out to the loved ones of those on board during this tragic incident, and I am praying for a safe recovery for the injured individual,” Hochul expressed in her statement.
