NEWARK, N.J. — The Oklahoma State Cowboys edged out Seton Hall with a final score of 76-75 in an exhilarating conclusion to the sixth annual Big 12/Big East Battle on Sunday. Both Robert Jennings II and Jamyron Keller made significant contributions, each scoring 14 points to help secure the victory.
The game began with Jennings hitting a three-pointer, setting the tone for the Cowboys. Brandon Newman and Keller followed suit with consecutive shots from beyond the arc, while Newman added another three a couple of minutes later. This offensive onslaught propelled Oklahoma State to a dominant 27-9 lead midway through the first half.
As the game approached its climax, Patrick Suemnick sunk a jumper with just 4:35 remaining, giving the Cowboys a comfortable 73-55 edge. However, Seton Hall mounted a furious comeback, leveraging a 21-8 scoring run that featured a couple of three-pointers from Scotty Middleton, trimming the Cowboys’ lead to single digits.
In addition to Jennings and Keller’s performance, the Cowboys saw Abou Ousmane and Newman contribute 13 points each, while Arturo Dean came off the bench to score 11 points and rack up four steals. Oklahoma State showcased impressive shooting, finishing the game with a field goal percentage of 56.9%, hitting 29 of 51 attempts overall and making 10 of 26 from three-point range.
For Seton Hall, Isaiah Coleman was the standout player, scoring 18 points, adding four assists, and registering four steals. Scotty Middleton excelled off the bench as well, making all four of his three-point attempts to finish with 16 points. Dylan Addae-Wusu chipped in with 10 points and three assists in a valiant effort.
This matchup marked only the second meeting between the two teams, with the previous encounter occurring 24 years ago in a Sweet Sixteen showdown during the NCAA Tournament, where Oklahoma State emerged victorious with a close 68-66 win to advance to the Elite Eight. At that time, Seton Hall’s third-year head coach Shaheen Holloway was the starting point guard, although he was sidelined for that game due to a broken ankle.
Looking ahead, Oklahoma State will be hosting the 21st-ranked Oklahoma in their Big 12 Conference opener this coming Saturday. Meanwhile, Seton Hall will be facing Rutgers in a final warm-up match before their Big East season kicks off.
