ANN ARBOR, Mich. — On Saturday, Michigan secured an 85-83 victory over Iowa, marking their seventh consecutive win, buoyed by strong performances from Vladislav Goldin and Danny Wolf who each posted double-doubles. Roddy Gayle Jr. made a key basket with just 4.6 seconds left, driving to the rim and earning points on a controversial goaltending call that ultimately gave Michigan the crucial two-point lead.

After Gayle’s basket, Iowa managed to advance the ball past the halfcourt line and called a timeout with only 1.1 seconds remaining on the clock. Upon resuming play, the Hawkeyes attempted an inbounds pass that reached Pryce Sandfort, but his hurried shot from the baseline—an awkward three-pointer—missed its mark, solidifying Michigan’s win.

Goldin led for Michigan with an impressive 20 points along with 11 rebounds. Wolf contributed significantly as well, notching 13 points and 14 rebounds. Tre Donaldson added 18 points to the scoreboard, while Gayle concluded with 17 points, contributing to Michigan’s overall shooting efficiency of 55%. Despite struggling from beyond the arc, managing only four successful three-point shots out of 20 attempts, Michigan compensated with a dominant rebounding effort, gaining a plus-15 advantage on the boards.

On Iowa’s side, Payton Sandfort struggled early on by missing his first five attempts from three-point range but eventually found his rhythm, sinking four of his last five shots, including two critical three-pointers in the final moments of the game that helped tie the score at 83. He finished the game with 19 points. Other notable performances for Iowa included Pryce Sandfort and Josh Dix, who each scored 16 points, while Owen Freeman and Drew Thelwell chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively. Iowa’s shooting was less efficient, finishing at 42% overall, with 9 out of 27 from three-point range.

Early in the second half, Michigan had kicked up their lead to as much as 11 points and was ahead 80-72 by the time the final media timeout rolled around. At halftime, the Wolverines were leading with a score of 40-37 after having previously held a 16-point advantage in the first half of the game. Looking ahead, Iowa will host Iowa State on Thursday, while Michigan is set to face off against Arkansas at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday during the Jimmy V Classic.
