BELGRADE, Serbia — Novak Djokovic is set to begin the upcoming tennis season at the Brisbane International tournament, which serves as a preparatory event leading up to the Australian Open.
“I’m thrilled to kick off my Australian campaign at the Brisbane International and I look forward to competing again at Pat Rafter Arena,” Djokovic expressed. He is aiming for his 100th tour-level title during this tournament.
This marks only the second appearance for Djokovic at the Brisbane International, where he faced Ernests Gulbis and was eliminated in the first round back in 2009.
The tournament is slated to take place from December 29 to January 5, with notable players such as Grigor Dimitrov, Holger Rune, Frances Tiafoe, and Nick Kyrgios also scheduled to participate.
As a 24-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic holds the record for the most weeks spent ranked No. 1 in tennis history. Last month, he revealed that he has brought on Andy Murray as his coach to assist him during the Australian Open, a Grand Slam event that Djokovic has won an impressive ten times.
The Australian Open is set to commence on January 12.
At 37 years old, Djokovic had a modest season in 2024, securing only one tournament victory, where he triumphed by winning his first Olympic gold medal at the Paris Games in August.
